Gonna buy a console for young Master Slatz (7th Birthday coming up).

What do you recommend? Which is best for "backup" games?

Mostly just sports games, footie, tenniss etc.

1. DS Lite - £100 + £35 for card never need to buy a game. Got one real good tbh

2. Xbox 360 - not sure on the price are good you can flash them but up to you.

3. Xbox - older system can be picked up for £30+ which you can install a standard HD in and download rent games and copy to hard disk.

All of these are my options but i recommend for someone your sons age a DS lite maybe the best thing to get.

My Chloe is nearly 6 and we've bought her a DS Lite for Xmas.

I've ordered the card for it and am in the process of "aquiring" all the relevant games.

Havent used a PS, Xbox or Wii so cant comment on those.

evidently Nintendo are in the process of trying to cover up a hack on the Wii that means any backup can be played!

Alice wanted a Wii but her best friend up the road has one so cant see the point in getting one as she plays with her one and would only buy the same bleedin games as her mate. I am trying to talk her round to a PS3. I know there aint many lil girls games for the ps3 but I'm a meanie and want it for me to use as well. I can surf the new with it and stream movies to the telly over the network from me pc and even play blueray and dvd movies with it if anyone wanted to buy me any.

Does anyone use a ps3 and what can it do?

Nelly. :gsv:

Alice has a ds and plays with it a fair bit so does the wife. All they play are these silly puppy dog games. I got a card to go in it and dl the romz.

I haven't had a console in years, much prefer PC's.

But I did get given a Wii for last birthday, and it's great fun.
Know nothing about chipping or suchlike yet though. Still playing Lego Starwars.

Get him a DSLite, make sure you dont let him keep it in his room tho otherwise he'll be up at 5am playing on it and will sneak it to bed, thats what our Tom does anyways

We've got an X360 which gets switched on a few times a month.
We've got a PS2 which just gets used to play DVD's and music cd's.
We've got a Wii, got it last saturday for Tom's 6th b'day, it was on all day Saturday and was on for a few hours on Monday, hasn't been on since...

The NDS is the best little thing for kids and as they say, you can get a cartridge that takes a normal Sd card and then you can download games to your hearts content and off you go, m8 of mine does them for £40 with 40 games on too, saves you having to download them...

I have a PS3, games nice to look at, be better when there is more then bug all for actually worth playing tho.

Video, Audio are all very good qual. I can stream it across my network and also have most of my PS3 on my psp with the control software.

Blueray works very nicely on my HD TV.

Got a 360, PS3 and Wii, 360 doesn't really get used, wii is great fun and the PS3, as said the amount of games is growing and im hoping to get Wipeout HD soon, bluray looks great at 1080p

But as already mentioned, DS Lite is the way, we have bought one for our eldest birthday in a few weeks time, the wife has one as does both her sisters and their kids.

Got him an Xbox 360 and FIFA09

Now I need to learn about flashing them so "backups" work.

IIRC its something to do with taking the CD drive out and then flashing the firmware on the drive then putting it back in...

Not that I'd know cos mines under warranty so hasn't been played about with...
