After skimmping for a while with my PC set up and it becoming a little outdated I decided to update it all.

Started after I bought a 22" widescreen monitor yesterday for £150 so thought I better get the PC to display the resolution at decent speeds.

Here goes:

Abit iP35 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Corsair XMS2 2x1GB matched memory
640mb XFX Nvidia 8800GTS
500 GB Seagate Baracuda 10
Tagan 500W power supply

So hopefully be able to play HL2 Episode 2 at a fair whack when its released and bioshock :P

Quad core Q6600 is an easy clocker too, expect 3.2 gig on air with good vento. Machine should fly DF.

Thats looks properly nice f0xeh - good choice!

I'm thinking of upgrading my AMD x2 4600 system soon - sticking a 8800GTS, another 4 gigs RAM, RAID 0+1 HDD and a 22" widescreen for some lovely DX10 Crysis action. Managing to total up a pretty penny on dabs though!

That looks like a nice little setup there Fox, you going to be doing some encoding and stuff to utilise the quad ?

I'll be leak testing my new little pc tonight :)

Finally I might be able to play CSS without random crashes ;)

Well thats just pee'd on my bonfire.

Got the monitor works fine looking good etc just gotta adjust the settings a little. Got my PC yesterday got to building it new hard drive works fine.

But well when i tried powering it on went on for 5 seconds shutdown and after 5 seconds restarted and hangs before the BIOS. So i checked all my connections took everything out reseated it to make sure it was all ok, same again. Thing is i dont know anyone with a set up that can take half my kit so cant test it. Pretty sure the motherboard is DOA and 1 of the sticks of RAM.

But phoned up scan said theyll arrange a courier to pick it up and after i explained I dont have another system to test all the stuff on theyll test it all both together and individually to find the faulty part(s) then pick a new replacement part and test it with the rest of my system before they return it and all free. So in terms of customer service so far Scan are the best company Ive dealt with so far just gave me an RMA and sorted it all out no questions asked. Just hope the rest of the process is as smooth.

Maybe the mobo just needs a bios upgrade to accept the Q6600. I'd check up on that. I know scan will flash latest Bios onto yer mobo for you for 10 quid when you make the order. Good idea if you aint got a spare c2d lying around.

Sounds likely to me, unless you've plugged the CPU fan into the wrong header on the board and its cutting off because it cant detect a fan speed.
Or theres also the posibility that the boards not brand new and one of the other fan speed shutdowns is enabled.
Have u reset the BIOS via the jumper or whatever?

Cant do anything with the BIOS it doesn't get that far, doesn't even beep any error codes when I take the memory out of the system, and from what I checked in terms of BIOS revisions it should support the CPU without any need for flashing. I also cleared the CMOS to reset the BIOS to factory defaults no difference. CPU fan was plugged in correct place. Stripped it back about 4 times and rebuilt it, each time had the same issue.

Anyway gone back today should be back in in 5-7 working days from today, so hopefully find out the problem was soon enough.

Might not even be a problem with the motherboard could be an issue with the power supply, as the system under max load will require about 360w of power. But if its not producing enough juice it'll do something similar.
