For any server admin types out there, do you use any third-party software to provide multiple user remote desktopping over and above Windows built-in RDC? We have a central PC at work that we'd like to use as a central place to run certain programs on but we can only have one user logged in at a time remote desktopping. I know we should probably use Windows Server edition but we're stuck with WinXP Pro 64 for the forseeable.

I've found links like this, (http://www.golod.com/2005/10/enabling-m ... tion-2005/) but have also read lots of reports that this doesn't actually work :o

Any thoughts or ideas?

How weird....I have just installed RoyalTS after a recommendation. Much more flexible than the Windows 2003 RDCs. Doubt it fits your bill though Baggy as it is based upon RDC and will only allow one connection at a time. Me thinks you need proper Terminal services clients (not cheap) to do what you want.

Terminal Services is the way to go if your sticking with Windows.

If these applications are so important that multiple people must access them then either buy more licences to run them locally on machines or put them on Windows Server and use TS.

Tell your boss not to be such a skinflint. You'll waste more money on lost time and productivity trying to find a "cheap" solution to this issue than you would spend putting the proper solution in.

Sorry to be blunt but that's how I see it.

Of course, if you were running this stuff on Linux you could do it for nothing. ;)
