Folks and folkesses
We have a standalone server / number cruncher at work that we backup onto an external hdd using the inbuilt Windows backup utility. We did a full backup 4 weeks ago and have been running incremental backups since then. My concern is that the file size of these incremental backups is bouncing around and I wonder if we're doing something wrong. So far, we've had
Full - 56 Gigs
Inc 1 - 4 gigs
Inc2 - 160 megs
Inc 3 - 4.59 gigs
There is no obvious reason that we can think of in terms of files stored on the server why the sizes should change so much - any ideas?

Surely its slightly like the posh version of activesync, it'll only copy/backup files that have been changed and if it has been changed it will take the entire file not parts. This may explain the jumping around.
The only reason I say this is my pda when sync'ing does this
Sorry if i'm telling granny how to suck eggs.........

That may make some sense, there is a largish Access database file that may be the culprit...
I use this to check the sizes of files stored on the server.
Quite a useful little tool
