Priced up a new PC for my Dad from Scan.co.uk. Looking to spend about £600, this is what we have.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200, Yorkfield Core, S775, 2.33 GHz, 1333MHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 7x, Retail £150.40

DFI LANPARTY UT ICFX3200-T2R/G ATI RD600, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 667/800, SATA II, £70.44

4GB(2x2GB) Corsair Value Select, DDR2 PC2-5300(667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, £49.98

Coolermaster Centurion RC- 534 Silver Case w/o PSU £54.99

750W Zalman ZM750-HP Dual Heatpipe Cooled Modular PSU +80% Eff £99.86

640 GB Western Digital WD6400AAKS Caviar Blue, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms £48.59

256MB ATI FireGL™ V3600 PCI-E (x16) 128Bit GDDR2, 2xDual Link DVI-I, OEM £103.3

Now as you guys really know your stuff I was hoping if you could just check to make sure that all the hardware is compatable and that the kit is the best for the money that we are spending. Last thing the Graphics card? My Dad doesn't play games, but he does use photoshop CS 3 a lot so I don't really know if he needs a Card like that or even if that is a good card.

Thanks
Ras

Only thing I can comment on is do you really need a 750W PSU with such a machine?

On the FireGL card it may be more worthwhile just picking up an ATI HD4850 for about the same cash, have a read of the comments on this article, ignore the article it's a bit pants like most THW reviews ;) http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Fir ... 16.html

Agree with Myo re the PSU

I've got the following..

Q6600
4Gb RAM
3x SATA HDD's
1x SATA DVD/RW/LS
XFi Card
PCI-E NIC
HD 3870
All running on a 430w Antec Neo PSU.

If it were my machine, I'd change the M'Board, CPU, GFX, PSU.
DFI are nice but generally not as good at stock as more normal boards, altho they will tweak better, if your old mans into that...
CPU, Quads not really used so unless he's running VMWare you'll probably be better off with a faster dual core.
GFX, agree with Myo, depending on what he's using software wise you might wanna look at an NVidia card as there sweet with Adobe atm and are starting to use the GPU to do stuff faster than the CPU will allow.
PSU, too big.

Id go for a Intel Q6600 processor still rated as the best cpu in £ for mhz. Quad core 2.4ghz a core and 8mb cache if my memoryserves me right and its cheaper than the one your getting.
