My sister has asked me too put together a new PC for her.

I want it to be of a fairly good spec that is gonna last her for some time without the need to upgrade it.

The only parts of her existing pc which will be usable are the monitor, k/b, mouse and speakers.

I have priced up 2 rigs, one based on Intel the other on AMD.

Obviously OcUK isnt the cheapest place to buy but its a work in progress.

Would you build it any different?

Would you build it cheaper?

I'm leaning towards the AMD Phenom rig, whats your thoughts?

If it's just a standard machine for basic stuff like docs, surfing, photos, music etc then I'd suggest a mac mini. Plug all the existing stuff she has into it and your away.

Small box, silent operation, high WAF rating etc. The included iLife software is plenty good enough for casual users for managing photos and knocking up basic videos.

If it's something a bit more full-on required then PC is best bet and I know jack all about PC's these days.

Mrs Gas has a mac mini and wouldn't be without it. ;-)

She has 2 boys and a husband all of whom enjoy playing driving games.

Her current pc literally has loads of em installed on it.

The boys have laptops which they play several games on but I'm sure they would play on the main machine if it was of a good gaming standard.

Its not gonna be overclocked as I'll have to look after it from afar.

I was leaning toward the AMD
