JellyFin server

Hey,

I have recently built a jellyfin server with 2 2tb HDDs sadly the first 2tb 4 weeks old has failed l. It was a KingSpec which reviews are mixed.

I am now looking to rebuild and thinking of buying something more trustworthy. Crucial seems to be the way I am thinking.

Should I go 2tb or 4tb or is there a smarter way I should be looking at?

I still prefer spinners for storage tbh, cheaper, and when they start to die, you get a warning, where an SSD will just shit itself and then you're screwed..

What platform were you running on, and why, and what hardware?

Dell OptiPlex 3020 PC Core i5-4570 16GB RAM 240GB SSD WINDOWS 11 PRO is what i was running. It was £40

I was building as a proof of concept to what I could do. I was wanting to back all my dvds up so I can watch them around the house. I bought two ssds to try and use them for speed thinking they would be the best option. One has failed and I have broken the PC so looking at something similar as it seemed to do the job until I broke it.

Shame you aren't closer, I've just upgraded my 'server' into an iTX case from an older AM4 5700G based system in an mATX Node304 case, CPU went to another friend but I've got a load of old smaller spinners and enough bits to build it back up, just needs the CPU...

As I said on FaceAche, spinners are still the way forward for this sort of thing, especially if you don't have any sort of backup or duplication going on, the chances of loss arent worth the risk, that said I'm only duplicating the important stuff on mine, the TV and Films don't fit in that category...

Well if thats more or less what you were running before you got your fingers in the way then at least its a known unit..
Shame not to upgrade at the same time though?

I think i need a little more proof but I start spending more money. But I am away at the moment and in my spare time I am looking into different options.

I'd deffo go down the spinner route, you might wanna look at Drivepool and Scanner while you are at it as well.

How much data do you have, and, are you ripping physical media you have, or collating stuff from all over, I'd rather have 2 physical disks so worse case you're only gonna lose half your stuff..

I started ripping physical media but I borrowed some stuff from online as well. I did try your DC++ but couldn't get it to work.

I did have 3 1/2 TB of datd until one of them failed.

Any sort of array, or just disks with stuff on?
DC++ is a PITA, if you don't have the ports setup properly.

Disks with stuff. I'm not clever enough to do stuff like that. I got out of this 10-15 years ago and getting back in making things like this again.

I have a vpn and thought I had opened everything maybe was Windows firewall or even my router stopping. Will try again when I get setup.

10tb if I remember correctly. I think i have a new plan, once back of my holiday going to rebuild using spinners. Buy a respectable make.

Samsung have been mentioned i looked at Seagate any other drive makes to look at or to avoid?
