Well if you've been running Vista for a while now and you're asking whether to stick with Vista or go back to XP, then that suggests that you're not entirely happy with Vista and are just looking for an excuse to put XP back on.

I've done quite a lot of testing recently between XP Pro and Vista 32 & 64bit

If you just want to play games as fast as possible, go for XP without a doubt it wins hands down.

I lost a ton of fps with Vista64, however with Vista32 it was *almost* as good as XP Pro - I put this down to dodgy 64bit drivers.

I'd stay clear of 64bit just now...

I had Vista64U and I found it slower than XP end of.
Also random slow downs and stuttering etc.
According to some of the Vista Fanboi's it was most likely down to my poor spec or bad drivers.

Last months custom PC mag had a XP vs Vista article. Conclusion that your pc on average needs to be 12.5% faster to run Vista at the same speed as Xp 32. So get clocking or stick with XP. I've tried XP 32 & 64 seems to be no difference in speeds. XP32 is a lot more stable though, with better driver support.

I believe from doing a bit of reading you can make vista about the same speed as XP by disabling alot of the fancy desktop graphics and the like.

But then it looks pretty similar to XP, just with DX10 support and a few other features

Why delay the inevitable?

Aren't us old people supposed to be reluctant to change?

I just convinced my mother to upgrade from win98 (1st edition) to vista.
Lol, she hates it! :)
It did involve buying a new pc though. that has to be good going, 9 years from a pc without a single upgrade, except the addition of a dsl modem. I'm a bad son

ye gods.....

I only use an OS to run the progs I want to run (usually games).
I hardly want an OS that, no matter how pretty, uses resources that I need to keep my fps & frag rate up.

(OK, so nothing is going to help my frag rate, but at least I want to die with a decent frame rate....)
